176:391980-05-19Wall LakeOtter Tail(record #2003-38, identification accepted 10–0 / A(o) origin accepted 9–1). All ten MOURC members vote on potential first state records and on questions of origin. This potentially first state record was originally voted on and Not Accepted. However, at the time there were not separate votes on identification and origin, as there are today, and those not accepting the record apparently did so because of its possible captive origin. Additionally, at the time there was no Accidental (o) designation: i.e., a record accepted on a qualified basis because of uncertain origin. Accordingly, to clear up any uncertainties, new votes were taken, and the record was accepted with the (o) qualifier (as are most previous records of this species). Accepted
258:1461984-10-19Rice LakeFaribault(vote 8-2 in favor of Ac category; The Loon 58:97–99). A potential first state record; all ten members voted. As discussed in the previous Proceedings article, a simple majority vote decides the status of possible escapes such as this; the two dissenting members voted for Aa status. Accepted
3MOU1987-08-071987-10-03Thompson Lake, west of CosmosMeekerThe Loon 59:217Accepted
468:581995-09-07Roseau River W.M.A.Roseau(The Loon 67:247–248); a vote on origin was also taken, and the record was accepted as Accidental (i.e. wild vs. captive origin probabilities about equal). Accepted
570:1561998-05-181998-06-22Summit Twp.Steele(photo record #98-63, vote 7–0). Accepted
673:352000-08-06Prescott LakeGrant(record #2000-75, vote 7–0 on identification, The Loon 73:64). After the identification was accepted, a discussion and vote on the origin of this individual was taken, and by majority vote (8–2; all ten members vote on questions of origin) it was accepted as Accidental (o) — i.e., the possibilities of captive vs. wild origin are about equal. Accepted
781:72004-08-01Otrey TownshipBig Stone(recirculated record #2004-108, identification previously Accepted 5–2, origin Accepted with o subscript, vote 10–0). This record was recirculated for discus8 The Loon Volume 81 sion and vote on origin. The o subscript indicates that the chances of natural origin are about the same as the chances of being an escape or release from captivity. Accepted
881:72005-10-17Rendsville TownshipStevens(recirculated record #2005-073, identification previously Accepted 7–0, origin Accepted 10–0). This record was recirculated for discussion and vote on origin. Acceptance without a subscript indicates assumption of natural origin. Accepted
980:1152007-10-282007-10-30Anderson Lakes, Eden PrairieHennepin(record #2007-085, vote 7–0 on identification, vote 7–3 for natural origin). Ninth state record; adult, photographed. All ten members discuss and vote on issues of origin. In this case, the majority felt that natural or “wild” origin was more likely, so the record will be filed without an “o” subscript. Accepted
1084:32011-05-14wetland near MadeliaWatonwan(record #2011-018, origin vote 8-2). Accepted as an Accidental (A) - i.e., there is reasonable certainty both birds were wild and arrived under their own power. The identity was previously voted on and Accepted. See The Loon 83:100. Accepted

Mating was observed in mid-June, but no subsequent evidence of nesting was observed. This species was first recorded in the state in 1980; eight of the first nine records were apparent migrants or post-breeding wanderers. The pattern changed in 2016 when most summer records began to appear. Accepted
